From the 400 or so students who graduate from the school each year, 120 are offered work/study programme places by ESIGELEC.
Founded in 1997 by the school, the CCIR and industry companies, this programme has the significant and unwavering support of the Haute Normandie regional authority. Currently, more than 300 students spread over the 3 years of the Engineering cycle are carrying out their studies through the work/study programme in more than 160 businesses.
The proportion studying in the Haute Normandie area is significant but they are distributed throughout the region as a whole.
Education by a work/study programme leads to the same qualification as the classic taught course, namely the ESIGELEC Engineering degree, which is recognised by the CTI (the commission of engineering titles) and issued under ministerial visa. The work/study programme is followed over 3 years, with alternating periods of taught lessons at ESIGELEC and practical training within a company. It also involves a 2 month international placement.
This work/study programme is on a monthly basis for 18 months, with specific lessons, then adapted during the second part of the second year and during the whole of the third year. In this case, lessons are followed alongside the classic education to the mutual benefit of all of the student engineers and to enable access to the different majors, which are chosen with the agreement of the company. This allows both cycles to interact with each other and they also both take part into the engineering project.
Studies* are financed by the Haute Normandie regional authority and also by the business itself via the apprenticeship tax. The apprentice receives a salary during their 3 years of training which is dependent on their age and the length of the contract.
The apprentice has the same rights to paid leave as other staff employed by the business (5 weeks).
*apprentices only pay set-up costs of 135 € and the annual student membership card cost of 54 €
The admissions procedure for the work/study programme requires being accepted to ESIGELEC and employed by a business recognised by ESIGELEC.
Selection by ESIGELEC is carried out through the admission examinations open to students taking preparatory classes or another training course at university level.
The work/study programme is also open to students from the Integrated International Preparatory Cycle.
The business recruitment process takes place following the business’ own recruitment procedure. Contact with the business can be made by the candidate before the examinations or by ESIGELEC.
Following this dual selection process, the candidate signs an apprenticeship contract. This is a fixed-term contract of employment of a specific type. They are then a salaried apprentice working for the business.
As part of our partnerships with industrial businesses, a few apprenticeship positions may be offered to foreign students.
Co-tutoring of the apprentice is jointly guaranteed by the business and ESIGELEC.
Within the business, the apprentice shadows an engineer who becomes their industrial tutor. This engineer guides the apprentice within the business and helps them learn about the profession.
At ESIGELEC a lecturer also has the role of educational tutor with the objective of monitoring work, supporting the student and evaluating their progress. Assessing the student’s overall progress brings involved parties from the business and ESIGELEC together.
The apprentice is trained by the business according to its needs. They are ready to begin work as soon as they graduate. They quickly adapt to the business’ culture and environment.
The work/study programme creates a special relationship between the apprentice and the business.
The business receives financial incentives to hire an apprentice:
For an apprentice studying through the ESIGELEC work/study programme the business could receive approximately 7320 € over three years.
Partnership agreements between ESIGELEC and businesses have been established to help find apprentice positions more easily.
To give you an idea, the following businesses have already recruited ESIGELEC students as apprentices :
In order to improve their chances of selection, candidates for the work/study programme are encouraged to approach businesses themselves in advance.
