Why study at ESIGELEC
ESIGELEC provide training for engineers in telecommunications, electronics, information technologies, information networks, embedded systems, automation and robotics, electrical engineering for transport, mechatronics, energy and sustainable development, biomedical engineering, business engineering and financial engineering.
Our engineering programme centres around project based educational methods, enabling a truly personal and vocational course to be created. It includes strong international, innovative and entrepreneurial aspects. It also takes account of environmental and societal issues.
Students can be admitted straight from school (5 year curriculum), following two or three years of university (3 year curriculum) or following four years of university (2 year curriculum). The final three years can be carried out as a classic taught course or through a work/study programme.
- A higher education engineering school for more than a century (formed in 1901) with a full range of qualification accreditations (recognised by the French State, certified by the Chief Education Officer on behalf of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, awarding the grade of Master’s Degree).
- Accredited by the French Board of Engineering Degrees. Member of the CGE (French Conference of top management and engineering Schools) and the CDEFI (Conference of Directors of French Engineering Schools). Awarded the EURACE label.
- ESIGELEC are supported by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rouen (CCIR) which manages it as a voluntary, not for profit school with the Alumni Association (SIGELEC) who include many ex students. It is also managed by local regional authorities (Haute Normandie and Rouen areas councils), businesses and their representative organisations (Aircelle, EDF, France Telecom, Synchronic, Thales Air Systems, Valéo and UIMM), and members of the higher education community (University of Rouen).
- Ranked among the best higher education schools
- L’Etudiant and L’express ranking, December 09 : 14th place
- L’Etudiant.fr : 3th place in the ‘Research Departments – Consultancy Companies’ category
- Le Point, March 08: 9th place for professional qualifications.
- An integrated international preparatory cycle to provide students with excellent preparation for entry into the Engineering Cycle, without the stress of entrance examinations. A third of students come from abroad and the course provides intensive training in English through the TOEIC scheme (Test of English for International Communication). It also teaches a second language from English, German or Chinese, lectures in English, a geopolitical module, and a possible course of seminars in an English speaking University at the end of the second year.
- An engineering cycle - 25 % non scientific learning (comprising of professional approaches, languages, management techniques and cultural studies), 55 % scientific and technological learning across the school’s fields of discipline, and 20 % major learning (from a choice of 12)
- A MSc. programme (MSc. and Specialised MSc.)
- A doctoral programme at the Research Institute
- A work/study programme: free training, with a salary, within a business. 120 places per year are offered to students accepted onto the Engineering cycle. It is followed as a monthly alternating course for one and a half years, then full time for the other one and a half years. Positions are offered by the school or found by students themselves (throughout France).
- A large selection of majors: 12 majors French-English, with one taught entirely in English (new subjects – Energy and Sustainable Development, Biomedical Engineering).
- A very strong international perspective – a cosmopolitan atmosphere with nearly 34% of students of international origin. 90 university partnership agreements in 40 different countries. A network of 650 foreign business partners. A compulsory trip abroad (a minimum of 3 months in total) with a choice of business placement, summer, full semester, or entire year university stay, double degree or year out.

Research focus - 4 Masters in Research at partner universities. International focus - 8 Masters of Science, in USA (3), Canada, Ireland, Germany, UK (2).
- Associations, which are an essential part of a balanced school life. More than a hobby, they provide genuine training for life. Sport as an extracurricular activity is encouraged and highly valued.
- A significant network of former students – more than 9000 graduates since the school was formed. A presence at the school through the SIGELEC (graduate association), which organises numerous events.
- An Embedded Electronic Systems Research Institute (IRSEEM), with the purpose of carrying out industrial research and transfer of technology according to the needs of the automotive and aeronautic industries as well as the electronics, telecommunications and energy sectors. It has been labelled as a ‘Host Team’ (EA 4353) by the Ministry of Research and as a Technological Resource Centre. Students can use the facilities for the engineering courses. Some will progress to do doctoral studies at IRSEEM.
- ESIGELEC and IRSEEM interact heavily with businesses and different parties involved in the local, national and international economy. This is achieved through training programmes, research activities, economic development and international activities.
