Rouen, a modern and dynamic city

Published the 20-11-2009

Rouen and the surrounding area are full of impressive construction projects and architecture which places it among the top European towns

The best international architects have been involved in the following projects:

  • The new Pont Flaubert bridge with its cutting edge technology - it is the highest lifting bridge in Europe at 86 metres
  • The 5000 seat Zenith designed by the architect Bernard Tschumi regularly features headline acts
  • Docks 76 (http://www.docks76.com/visite_virtuelle_docks_76.htm), a new shopping centre by the river, designed by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. It pays homage to Rouen’s port heritage
  • The riverside areas which have recently been refurbished and are now a fantastic place to walk and take in the many terrace cafes and restaurants which line them
  • The lighting architecture which provides a contemporary nocturnal experience

In the future, the banks of the Seine will change again with the construction by 2012 of a new 6000 capacity sports centre (designed by the architect Dominique Perrault), the creation of the 106 venue for current music (by the architects King Kong), a science centre, refurbishment of the pleasure port, the Pont Flaubert eco quarter, etc.
