Sustainable development
Making sustainable development a strategic focus for the school is having an impact on its educational programme and its research activities. It is also affecting its activities in innovation and creation and its overall functioning and organisation. This focus also sits perfectly alongside the school’s involvement in the energy sector in Normandie.
Education
- A new core subject, “Energy and Sustainable Development” will be introduced from February 2010. The 340 hour course aims to train engineers to master the technologies involved in energy systems, carry out a needs analysis for a private or industrial facility, and propose solutions which balance energy efficiency, environmental impact and economic profitability. They will also learn about standardization, regulation, fiscal issues and market strategies which apply to the energy sector.
- Credit points related to this theme are available to all students: Sustainable development, Crisis and opportunity – Sustainable development and business, Local economic development and environmental impact
Research
- A fourth research department devoted to ‘Energy and systems’ will be established from January 2010. It will also be in line with the subject area of sustainable development
Innovation and business start-ups
- Support for innovative business start-ups: project owners are allowed to work on their own project within the context of an engineering project. Students and graduates are able to make the most of support in the form of an incubating environment created by a technology enterprise hub, with support from OSEO (innovation support agency).
- Strong involvement in the “Towards Co-Development” support programme for business start-ups in Africa. This offers help to foreign and French students and was set up by GRANNDE, the network for sustainable development in business.
Functioning
- Carbon footprint assessments are taking place throughout the school with the Altea Consultancy practice, including raising awareness among staff and students.
- We also have a policy of recycling educational equipment for use by local and international partners.
