For the start of the 2009/10 academic year, ESIGELEC had 1400 students.
The school provides :
All of this is carried out through a great deal of interaction with business and a significant international outlook across all fields of activity (exchanges, recruitment, double degree curricula, international lecturers, technology education taught in English, non localised curricula or engineering teaching in India, China, Africa and a regional office in Shanghai, and business partnerships).
ESIGELEC’s principal mission and the one which all others are based around is to provide training for engineers in telecommunications, electronics, information technologies, information technology systems, embedded systems, automation and industrial robotics, electrical engineering and transport, mechatronics, energy and sustainable development, biomedical engineering, business engineering and financial engineering.
ESIGELEC are a private engineering school with associative status, formed in 1901, and recognised by the French State. It has been situated in Rouen since 1978.
It is co-managed as a voluntary, not for profit organisation by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rouen (CCIR) and the Society for Electrical Engineers (SIGELEC) which has former students as members. Since 2008 it has also been run by local regional authorities (for the Haute Normandie and Rouen areas), local businesses and their representative organisations (UIMM, Valéo, Thalès Air Systems, France Télécom, Aircelle, EDF, Synchronic) and members of the higher education community (University of Rouen).
The school is accredited by the CTI (French Board of Engineering Degrees) to issue its Engineering degree (the last accreditation process was in 2007 and lasts for a maximum of 6 years).
It is also a member of the CGE (French Conference of top management and engineering Schools) and the CDEFI (Conference of Directors of French Engineering Schools), which they have been a permanent member of since 2009.
In 2001 ESIGELEC, along with 40 businesses, the CCIR and support from the French and regional government, created IRSEEM (the Research Institute of Embedded Electronic Systems) which has enabled rapid development of collaborative research concerning embedded electronics. This research is intended for use by the regional sectors of the automotive, aeronautics and electronics industries. Teams from IRSEEM have carried out important research work while at the same time developing activities which facilitate technology transfer and local economic development. The institute has been labelled as an EA 4353 ‘Host Team’ by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and its activities concerning ‘transfer and local development’ have been awarded the CRT (Technological Resource Centre) label. It also actively participates in 5 competitiveness clusters – the global clusters MOV’EO and Aerospace Valley, and the NOVALOG, ASTECH, and TES national clusters
Since 2004 ESIGELEC and the IRSEEM have been located on 12000 m² of space at the Technopôle du Madrillet site just south of Rouen, in Saint Etienne du Rouvray. The building, which was designed by Atelier 234, received the Auguste Perret Prize for architecture
