Preparations before you leave

Academic Calendar

You are planning onto spend a few months or a year at ESIGELEC. Such a trip has to be very well prepared to be successful.
All the administrative procedures must be thought and organized beforehand.
Please note that it would be very helpful for you to have some basic knowledge of French language. For you to carry on improving, we will offer you French classes.

Before their arrival, students are requested to contact the International Relations Direction (Tel.: + 33 2 32 91 58 58) or by email : morgane.etienne@esigelec.fr to notify the day and time of arrival.
Whenever possible, ESIGELEC’s students welcome them at Rouen train station and bring them at school or in their residence.

N.B. : The students are expected to arrive during the week, in the morning if possible, especially not weekends or late at night as there would be no one to welcome you neither at ESIGELEC nor at the university residence.

The BDI (international students association)

Hosted by the School ‘students, the BDI deals more particularly with the international students by assisting them in their administrative steps. It organizes discovery trips and involves them in the festive life of the school.

Accommodation

Students have the opportunity to live either in student residences or in private rentals :

The student residence

Accommodation applications are administrated by the CROUS, Regional Centre of University and School Undertakings (http://www.crous-rouen.fr/). Five residences receive students and trainees, according to possibilities of lodging: “le Bois”, “le Panorama”, “la Pléiade”, “le Madrillet” and “le Rouvray”. These residences are located in Mont Saint Aignan and in Saint Etienne du Rouvray.

The students rooms located in Mont Saint Aignan (Panorama, Bois, Pléiade) are about 1 hour and a half away from the school by bus and tramway. There are a lot of buses and Trams during the day (http://www.tcar.fr/)

The accommodations at Saint Etienne du Rouvray (Madrillet, Rouvray) are respectively 5 and 10 minutes walk from school.

The monthly rent of a student housing varies between € 180 and € 336.40 (rates 2009/2010), to which it is necessary to add the deposit (equals a month rent) and a housing insurance.

ESIGELEC, in collaboration with the Regional Centre of University and School Undertakings, offers about 100 accommodations distributed in the 2 main campuses (Mont Saint Aignan and Saint Etienne du Rouvray).

In terms of attribution, priority is given to :

1) students in adaptation year,
2) students in MSc. programmes
3) international students in exchange.

To apply for an accommodation, students are invited to contact the international relations department of ESIGELEC.

Private rental

For the students wishing to live independently, ESIGELEC has a list of available rentals, located near the school or in the centre of ROUEN.

However, the rental steps have to be done by the students themselves.

A room of average comfort costs around ≈ € 300 per month. In general, a month rent guarantee has to be envisaged. Accommodation insurance is mandatory (estimated rates: € 43), an attestation will be required by the owner or the rental agency.

Housing allowances

Financial assistances for students can be granted according to certain criteria. They are given by « La Caisse d’Allocations Familiales de Rouen » (C.A.F). Applications have to be done as soon as the students obtain their resident permit or the long Visa Stay validated by OFFI with the help of the International Relations department (i.e. Ms Etienne).

  • Personalised Housing Allowance (APL)

This is an individual allowance, granted to people who occupy a housing of rental use (occupation of at least 8 months per year), under conditions of resources and existence of convention. No condition of nationality is required.

  • Allowance of Social Housing (ALS)

It is granted under conditions of resources of the beneficiary and under no conditions of age and nationality. For a monthly rent of ≈ € 100 in a student residence, the housing allowance is of ≈ € 46.

Catering

The university cafeterias are run by the CROUS. Numerous catering formulas are offered. For € 5.50, students can get a main course and a dessert.

2) In Saint Etienne du Rouvray:

Scholarships

Eiffel Scholarship

Eiffel scholarships are allocated by the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs for training of Master’s level (4 years of higher education). The student must have previously received a letter of acceptance from the host school. Applications are submitted by schools to the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

Excellence Scholarship at the Embassy of France

Whatever their country of residence, candidates must apply, before their departure, from the Cooperation and Cultural Action of Embassies and General Consulates of France in their countries of origin to obtain information about theses scholarships (selection, file constitution…).

Erasmus programme

This grant allows European students to travel easily from one European country to another, provided that the home universities and the host institutions have signed a collaboration agreement.

Financial aid from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rouen

Depending on the financial and social parents’ situation, a financial aid can be granted to students. The commission is held once a year. After acceptation, the financial aid is deducted from the tuition fees of the last trimester.
